Difference between article and section
Article
We use article in those documents which are fundamentally important to a nation and have impact on other statutes as well. For e.g. – Constitution and limitation act. ‘Article’ – this is generally used in international treaties, Conventions. In constitution of India we have used the word article instead of sections because it provides fundamental norms to make municipal laws.
When any fundamentally critical document is framed or drafted which might be a fundamental norm to support all other legal norms of that system at political, national or international level, then for the most part, it is separated from the customary municipal laws by referring to its provisos as articles rather than sections. For example – United Nations Charter, International Conventions, Constitution of a country, and so on, from where different laws or rules originate. Otherwise, municipal laws normally contain sections.
Sections
These are not that fundamentally important to a nation and are merely a municipal laws. Moreover, these statutes is backed by legal reasoning. For e.g. – Contract act.
Section” is less ambiguous. A section, by definition, is a part of a larger whole. A division has been made, for whatever reason – like a chapter in a book, maybe.
It is been divided into chapters or parts so that topics can be differentiated. For example class is divided into section just like that that acts are divided into section so that it’s easy to follow and understand
It can be arbitrary, but many times dividing things up into bite-size or banquet-size parts can help the reader prepare as they cross each line.
